Creative Writing Workshops for Homeschool High Schoolers

Small-Group Writing Intensives Designed for Serious Young Writers

Homeschooling gives students the freedom to explore subjects deeply, but writing—especially creative writing—thrives in a workshop setting. Learning to write well is understanding how stories work, revising with purpose, and engaging with other writers.

These aren’t generic English classes. They are an immersive creative writing workshops where students will:
Write and revise original stories, essays, and creative pieces
Learn to give and receive real, constructive feedback
Read and analyze literature with a writer’s eye—not just as a student, but as someone who wants to create
Meet and collaborate with peers—a rare and valuable experience for homeschoolers
Get expert guidance on writing, editing, and even publishing

These programs are structured, but are not just lectures. They are a hands-on, interactive experiences where students engage with the craft of writing in a way that makes them better writers.

What This Program Is (and What It Isn’t)

This IS a core part of your student’s English curriculum. It fulfills key high school writing and literature requirements while offering something most traditional courses don’t: a real writing community.

This IS NOT a passive class where students sit and listen. They will write, share, revise, and discuss.

This IS a place for creative writers, future authors, and strong thinkers. Whether they’re interested in fiction, nonfiction, poetry, or essays, they’ll build skills they can use for life.

State Homeschooling Requirements (and How This Helps You Meet Them)

Most states require homeschoolers to study writing, literature, and critical thinking—but very few offer structured programs for creative writing, revision, and peer feedback.

These workshops help you meet and exceed state homeschooling requirements by providing:

  • Regular structured writing practice (both creative and analytical)
  • Literary discussion and analysis (focused on technique, theme, and style)
  • Guided revision and peer feedback training (teaching students how to edit effectively)
  • Mentorship on writing, storytelling, and publishing

How It Works

During these sessions, students will:
🖊 Write and submit creative work based on structured prompts and readings
💬 Workshop their writing in small groups, learning to give and receive feedback like real writers
📖 Analyze stories and books, not just as readers, but as writers studying their craft
🔄 Revise their work based on feedback, developing real editing and storytelling skills

By the end of a course, students will have:

  • A portfolio of polished writing
  • Experience in giving and receiving constructive criticism
  • A deeper understanding of storytelling and literary techniques
  • Confidence in their voice as a writer
