This service is for students who have written a short story and want professional-level editing that also teaches them how to strengthen their writing.
At Ms. Libby’s Lab, student writing is treated as serious work. Our editors bring extensive experience working with student writers and narrative assignments in academic settings. Each review focuses on how a story functions on the page. Editors look closely at structure, pacing, language choices, and narrative focus in order to identify where a story is carrying its weight and where it begins to drift.
This service combines editing with instruction. The goal is not to rewrite the story for the student, but to show the student how their existing draft can become stronger. Editors work directly within the manuscript, marking line-level issues such as run-on sentences, imprecise language, and moments where the writing becomes difficult to follow. Notes also address larger narrative concerns including weak openings, sections that stall the story’s movement, and places where the stakes or central conflict are not fully developed. Students receive feedback that explains why these issues matter so they can apply the same lessons to future stories.
Service offered:
• A fully edited version with tracked changes
• Margin notes on structure, tone, pacing, and clarity
• Summary of key edit suggestions and next steps
• One additional edit after student revision (this is a process)
If the short story is already written and the student is serious about making it stronger, this service provides structured feedback and revision support.
Once the order is placed, detailed instructions will be sent explaining how to submit the story. Turnaround time is up to one week for each set of edits.
